  • Write 1-2 pieces a month, including guides, kitchen product reviews, and intermittent personal essays.

  • Collaborate with SEO, Data, and Monetization Teams to create shareable and engaging pieces. Work closely with the art team to choose imagery and request illustrations and infographics.

  • Assigned 90-100 user-generated pieces each month that were then republished behind the Medium paywall. Pieces were used in various Medium publications, strategically targeted for the content needs of subscribers.

  • Worked 1:1 with the writers of each of these pieces, guiding new and non-professional writers through the entire editorial process. Easily handled conflicting time zones and strategically managed the impact of the extreme political climate on stories.

  • Approached each writer with the goal of creating a positive writing experience, making sure that the writer was comfortable with edits and changes in their respective pieces.

  • Reported to a team of 4 editors (including Editor in Chief) in the Human Parts vertical, which focused on personal stories. Also worked on pieces in the OneZero (tech), Modus (design), and General News verticals.

  • Writers I managed demonstrated ~30% greater output and audience reach over time, compared to other editors. As a result I was asked to lead the hiring and training of new Upworthy writers.
